Job description

Our client, one of the most exciting government departments, is currently seeking a Python Developer to join their implementation team of 8. Working remotely, you will be responsible for supporting the development of the NSW Geological Survey's redevelopment of its existing "DIGS" document archive system. It is a set of Python services running on Kubernetes in the AWS cloud; a very high profile project!

Essentially you will be:

  • Extending the base archive application with new features
  • Capturing content and metadata from multiple existing digital document collections.
  • Designing and building internal and public front ends for collections.
  • Experience of Software development within the open-source Python-based software
    ecosystem.
  • Developing Linux platform development.
  • Working with large Python applications
  • Autonomous and make day to day programming decisions within the
    project
  • Delivering programming to relevant agile sprints, on time to fit with wider project
    delivery schedules and plans
  • Working collaboratively with members of the project team to deliver the
    priority requirements of internal and external stakeholders for the projects as defined
    by the Manager, Data Management and Delivery

Desirable technical skills:

  • Cloud (AWS) OR Linux platform
  • Starlette, Flask or similar for web APIs
  • Kubernetes
  • DevOps
  • Test-driven development and unit testing

An incredible addition to your skillset:

  • Web front-end experience, especially Angular
  • Exposure to geospatial data formats and tools (GeoServer OR PostGIS)
  • Handling common digital document formats, OCR, image format conversion
  • An understanding and appreciation of working within Agile and Waterfall project
    management frameworks.
